Swindon Homelessness Statistics (August 2008)

Swindon has a population of approximately 200,000, swelling
to around 300,000 people living within 20 miles of the town centre.

Two neighbourhoods are within the most disadvantaged
10% within the UK.

3 years ago Swindon Borough Council reported the 8th highest
level of reported rough sleeping in the UK.

Home Office estimates suggest Swindon has some
1200 to 2000 problematic drug users.

Local estimates indicate that in 2003 there were 207 injecting drug users in Swindon and 67 class “A” drug supply offences detected, with the main drug supply being Bristol, Birmingham, London and Liverpool.

435 people accessed drug and alcohol treatment in 2003
- 43% heroin, 20% cannabis.

Swindon has the highest number of homeless people living in B&B’s
in the South West according to the latest Government statistics.
