Justin’s Story

Justin

Justin’s life was a chaotic one, involving a mixture of drug use, sleeping rough and moving in and out of hostels. The regular drug use had brought with it a state of paranoia that caused Justin to feel the need to carry knives for protection. This made other services understandably wary of engaging with him.

Repeated eviction from a variety of hostels had left Justin severely depressed, and when we first met him we called the mental health team as Justin was suicidal. He came to use the Day Centre which Threshold attend, providing a weekly source of support, and we were able to draw up a plan to assist Justin gain insight into his problems. As he improved, we were able to persuade the Borough to reconsider his need for accommodation, which was found for him in a local B&B.

With counselling and medication, Justin has lost his paranoia, is clean, and now has a part-time job. Justin has since moved into his own flat, and has been granted access to his 5 year old son.
