Jock's Story

Jock

A 45 year old Scot, Jock has become infamous with the services in Swindon as an entrenched rough sleeper deemed unhousable.

Jock says he’s been an alcoholic as long as he can remember. This had led to a myriad of problems, including a custodial sentence for GBH, and ultimately caused him to leave his wife and children in Scotland and move south for their sakes.

Jock’s drinking has led to a general deterioration in health: he suffers from Type 1 diabetes, a condition so long undiagnosed it undoubtedly exacerbated his behavioural problems.

Our Outreach met Jock with respect, an open mind and a little caution! It was refreshing how readily Jock accepted responsibility for his situation. Having worked with his GP and the Borough, “Unhousable Jock” has now, with Threshold's support, been in accommodation for 8 months. He continues to struggle with major health challenges, but can soon look forward to the 1st anniversary of being sober.
