Lisa's Story | in her own words
“When Threshold asked me if I was happy for my story to appear, I was initially reluctant, to be honest; up until recently very little in my life has been something I’m proud of.
What changed my mind was a conversation with my key worker, who made me realise how much progress I had made. Drug misuse has been the cause of so much trouble and sadness in my life, I felt I owed something to others going through the same stuff as me (and trust me, there are plenty of them out there).
I can promise that with hard work on your part and the support that’s available out there in the town from people like Threshold, there is a way through it.
At 30 and a bit I’ve had what you’d probably call a colourful life. For the last half of it – apart from recently at any rate – I’ve been using drugs, mostly heroin and crack. Caught dealing in a local squat, I finally reached bottom when I served a sentence for GBH. As a result, my 16-year old son has lived all his life with my parents, and my second son (3 years old) is in foster care, having spent his early life in the prison mother-and-baby unit. more...
