Therera's Story | in her own words
“I’d never even heard of Threshold, even though I’ve lived all my life in Swindon. I can’t say how pleased I am I was put in touch with them. It became a real turning point in my life. I’d previously been in and out of Swindon Council accommodation, and had built up quite a big debt with them that was worrying me. One of my problems has been that I’m not really very self-confident, and I’m a worrier, so it was a relief to be given a key worker to help me. He knew what he was doing, seemed to know all the possibilities out there, where to get help from, through different people and organisations.
He got me to sort out my debts, organise my money and other affairs, and got me into a woman’s shared house managed by Threshold. Most of all, he helped build my confidence, start thinking more positively, and when those little doubts and thoughts sat in the back of my mind, talking with him and other staff helped me deal with my problems.
Best of all, two years on, I’ve just been told I’ve been nominated for my own council flat. I can’t say how they makes me feel – I feel I’ve achieved something huge. It may not seem much to ordinary people, but it’s the most I’ve managed in my life. And the great thing is that, once I get my own flat, I can still come here to Threshold if I need to ask any questions or have any worries. That’s like one of those safety ropes – I’m not on my own. more...
