How We Work
“A hand up rather than a hand-out”
At the heart of our success lies our conviction that engaging pro-actively with homeless people helps them break the cycle of homelessness and anti-social behaviour and rebuild their lives.
Threshold’s aim is to provide each client with a chance to change: addressing each individual’s underlying problems so that they can sustain a normal life in their own home and become a useful member of society.
We recognise that individual lifestyles and behavioural problems must be confronted via a regime of firm but understanding support.
Giving responsibility for their rehabilitation to the individual is what differentiates Threshold from other homeless agencies.
The success of our approach depends on working individually with each client to develop their personal skills and self-respect. This starts with every individual having a support plan with targets and goals for attainment, with individual help from trained Threshold staff, backed up by a 24 hour ‘on-call’ support service to help clients deal with crises.
“A voluntary organisation run on commercial lines”
At Threshold we regard our operation as a service to clients. As in the commercial world, this means tailoring the service to meet individual client needs. At the same time we manage the Threshold operation professionally in areas such as governance, financial controls, risk management, human resources, customer services, marketing and fundraising.
